Purcell's Performance Propels Spikes Past Doubledays in 6-5 Win

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Brandon Purcell reached base four times and drove in two runs, including the eventual winning run in the seventh inning, as the State College Spikes defeated the Auburn Doubledays, 6-5, on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Purcell, who was making his first home appearance for the Spikes (31-30), drove in the go-ahead run for State College in the fourth with a broken-bat single to right-center field. Jacksonville Reclaims NAL Title

JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks (15-1) defeated the defending champions Carolina Cobras (10-6) 52-48 to claim their second NAL Championship Title. Quarterback Mike Fafaul started the game for the Sharks tonight after leaving the first playoff game with an injury, yet, he was able to start and perform well for Jacksonville. He finished 15-of-24 for 146 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. When Bane came in, he was 5-of-12 for 26 yards. Drillers Rally Past Naturals and Move into First Place

SPRINGDALE, AR - One night after suffering a walk-off loss at Northwest Arkansas, the Tulsa Drillers bounced back with a win Saturday at Arvest Ballpark. The Drillers did not have a base runner through the first four innings and were held without a run for the first five, but they overturned a one-run deficit by scoring four times in the top of the sixth inning. They added two more runs run in the seventh and eventually recorded a 6-2 win over the Naturals.
