Wilmington Wins First Mills Cup in Two Decades

September 14, 2019 - Fayetteville, NC - For the fifth time in franchise history, but the first time in two decades, the Wilmington Blue Rocks are Mills Cup Champions. The Blue Crew captured the Carolina League crown by beating the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, 2-0, on Saturday at Segra Stadium. The Game Five triumph came courtesy of Wilmington's second straight shutout. The Woodpeckers did not score a run over their final 20 trips to the plate in the series. September 14, 2019 - Fayetteville, NC - When his team needed him most Austin Cox responded, as the Wilmington lefty tossed six scoreless innings in the Blue Rocks' 2-0 victory over the Fayetteville Woodpeckers on Friday at Segrea Stadium. The Game Four win by the Blue Crew staved off elimination and set up a winner take all contest in the best of five Mills Cup Championship Series. Cox was nearly untouchable. Offense Silenced as Wilmington Evens Championship Series

September 13, 2019 - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers mustered up just three hits in a game four loss to the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Segra Stadium. Jojanse Torres tossed six innings of one run ball, while JP France and Yeremi Caballos combined to allow just three hits in relief, but the solid mound performances were not enough. Austin Cox had a no hitter going into the sixth inning as the Fayetteville offense was shutout for the second time in the post season.
